Do you need oversize load permits in the state of Hawaii? - Width: 9′
- Height: 14′
- Weight: 80,000 lbs gross
- Overhang: 4’ in the front; 4’ off the rear

Legal Operating Times
- One-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset. Night travel may be authorized in the permit. Authorized weekend travel will also be noted on the permit. Saturday and Sunday movements are at the discretion of the applicable district engineer.
- Travel restricted on state highways from 5:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Pilot Cars & Escort Vehicles
Escort vehicle or pilot car required for heavy-haul or oversize loads if:
- Length: Depends upon route.
- Width: Over 12’ wide requires one front. Over 14’ requires two.
- Height: Depends upon route.
- Weight: Undefined.
- Overhang: Undefined.
Pilot Car and Escort Vehicle Requirements
There are no defined pilot car or escort vehicle requirements for the state of Hawaii.
Oversize Load Sign Requirements
“WIDE LOAD” signs at least 6’ long and 1’ high with a yellow background and black letters at least 10″ tall are required on all loads exceeding 12’ in width. Red flags at least 24″ by 24″ are also required on loads exceeding 12’ in width.
